Albania Sees 30% Surge in Hotel Visitors in February — Foreign Tourism Leads the Way

The latest data from the Albanian statistics agency INSTAT confirm a strong upward trend in inbound tourism.

They underscore the growing interest of key European markets and support Albania’s ambitions to establish itself as a year-round destination, especially in the off-season.

In figures

  • In February 2025, 118,000 people stayed in hotels and other accommodations – an increase of 30% compared to February 2024.
  • Foreign visitors: 72,914, an increase of 32% compared to the previous year.
  • Overnight stays: increase of 34.2% overall.
    • Foreign tourists: +35.4%
    • Domestic tourists: +32%

The central region of Albania attracted the most visitors during the month.

Top countries of origin: Italy led the way, followed by Kosovo, Germany, the UK, and France – all important markets for Albania’s growing tourism industry.

According to representatives of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Business Climate, this increase reflects strategic efforts to position Albania as a year-round destination and to deepen relations with the EU and neighboring travel markets.

However, one challenge remains:

despite the increase in visitor numbers, hotel occupancy rates fell slightly, from 16.7% in February 2024 to 16.5% this year.

This slight decline suggests that while more people are visiting the country and staying longer, there is still room for improvement in terms of capacity utilization in the hospitality sector.
