Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has officially resigned from his executive role in order to take up his seat in the new legislative term.
In a letter to the Secretariat of the Kosovo Assembly, Kurti confirmed his resignation, as reported by Klan Kosova and KoSSev.
According to Kosovo’s laws, anyone elected as a Member of Parliament who also holds an executive position—such as Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister, or Deputy Minister—must resign from their executive role. The law prohibits individuals from serving in both the legislative and executive branches at the same time.
Kurti explained:
“Since March 23rd, marking the end of our government’s four-year term, we have been operating as a caretaker government. In line with the Constitution and applicable laws, and following my official declaration—accepted by the Central Election Commission on March 27th, 2025—I hereby submit my formal resignation from my executive position. This step allows me to be sworn in as a Member of Parliament in the ninth legislative term of the Republic of Kosovo, effective immediately.“
