Because of Russia: compulsory shooting training for children in Poland

The Polish government is taking the threat from the east seriously and arming itself – not only on the border, but also in the classroom. Pupils in the eighth and ninth grades (14 to 15 years old) are now officially receiving weapons training. The mix of theory and practice is intended to make young people “defensive” – according to the official line from Warsaw.

The new school subject “Education for Security” was introduced as early as 2023. Now it is being sharpened – with real shooting training. Loaded, cocked, aimed: the plan is to be prepared for an emergency. Shooting lessons are now compulsory – a novelty in Europe.

The Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) broadcasting company took a look at the whole thing at the grammar school in Iłża. According to the report, the students there not only learn how to handle realistic replicas of weapons, but also discipline and a sense of responsibility. “If things get hairy, we know how to use a weapon,” says 15-year-old Kacper soberly.
Shooting instructor Pawel Piorun is also convinced: “We see what’s happening across our border.” For him, it’s clear: everyone should have this basic training – not just children.
Incidentally, the whole thing is paid for by the Ministry of Defense – including the shooting range and full-time shooting instructors. So while school books are lacking in other places, Poland now has targets and hearing protection.
