Breaking news: Another plane crash in New York

A small plane of the type Mitsubishi crashed in upstate New York on Sunday.

There has been another tragic plane crash in the United States. According to a report in the New York Times, a small Mitsubishi MU-2B-60 plane crashed in upstate New York on Sunday, killing all six people on board. According to relatives, the victims included a family on their way to a private celebration.

Taken off from Westchester Country Airport

According to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft had previously taken off from Westchester County Airport and was supposed to land at Columbia County Airport – an approach that did not go as planned. According to CNN, the pilot reported over the radio that he had missed the approach and requested permission to land again. A few minutes later, the tower lost contact.

Poor visibility at the time of the crash

As reported by local TV station ABC 7 New York, the wreckage of the aircraft was found in a field near the town of Copake, about 20 kilometers south of the airport. At the time of the crash, visibility was poor due to heavy fog. Whether this played a role is currently the subject of the ongoing investigation.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation. Investigators secured initial evidence at the crash site to determine the exact cause of the accident.

A worrying series

The accident is part of a worrying series of aviation accidents in the United States: just last month, a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River, killing six people. In January of this year, an Army helicopter collided with a passenger jet over Washington state, killing 67 people, as reported by CBS News.
