The new Middle East war: On Saturday night, there was another wave of attacks in which Iranian missiles struck the center of Tel Aviv. Warning sirens also sounded in Tehran and other cities, and the population sought refuge in shelters.
According to the Israeli military, Iran fired dozens of ballistic missiles at Israel during the night. Some of them were intercepted by the Israeli defense system, but there were still reports of strikes in the Tel Aviv area. Emergency services and security forces are on duty throughout the country. According to media reports, several people were injured, including by falling debris.
The city of Ramat Gan was particularly affected, where, according to Israeli police, a woman was killed by a piece of shrapnel – the first officially reported death on the Israeli side as a result of the Iranian attacks.
The Israeli Air Force responded promptly, attempting to intercept incoming missiles with the Iron Dome defense system and launching targeted counterattacks to take out launch pads and military infrastructure. The army announced on its official Telegram channel that it was “acting decisively to neutralize the threat.”
Iranian state television also reported a “new wave of missile attacks” launched from the capital Tehran and the western Iranian city of Kermanshah. According to the semi-official news agency Fars, this is Iran’s third wave of attacks within 48 hours.
Air raid sirens were sounded again in numerous regions of Israel. The security situation remains tense, with many families spending the nights in bunkers or shelters. At least 63 people were injured in Israel in the previous waves of attacks.
The international community is following the escalation with great concern. The ongoing exchange of blows between two of the most influential players in the region could have far-reaching consequences for stability in the Middle East.
Neither side has yet issued an official statement on the exact motives or possible diplomatic solutions.
Israel attacked several targets in Iran on Thursday night, including the capital Tehran and the Natanz nuclear facility, according to exxtra24. According to Israeli sources, the attacks were directed against Iran’s nuclear program, military installations, and high-ranking military officials and nuclear scientists. The attacks killed the heads of the Iranian army and the powerful Revolutionary Guards, and nearly the entire leadership of the Revolutionary Guards’ air force was eliminated.
