Albania continues to experience a remarkable tourism boom. According to the Albanian Ministry of Tourism and the national statistics office INSTAT, over 4.72 million foreign visitors traveled to the country in the first six months of 2025 alone—an increase of around 25 percent compared to the same period last year (money-tourism.gr, July 19, 2025).
June was particularly striking: with over 1.42 million international tourists, it was the strongest June on record – a clear indication that Albania has long since established itself as a fixture in European tourism. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, this increase not only represents another record, but also underscores the growing international interest in Albania as a summer destination.
One reason for the boom is the targeted promotion of sustainable tourism and the expansion of tourist infrastructure in regions such as the Ionian Sea, Lake Shkodra, and the rural hinterland. Hotels, vacation rentals, and campsites reported occupancy rates in May that are usually only seen in the height of summer. The growing number of international flights – especially low-cost connections from Central Europe – has also contributed to Albania becoming equally attractive for short breaks and longer stays (money-tourism.gr).
Tourism Minister Mirela Kumbaro was delighted with the development and emphasized that the strategy of positioning Albania as an authentic and safe travel destination is paying off. “Our goal is not only quantitative growth, but above all sustainable, high-quality tourism,” she said in a press release from the ministry.
Looking ahead to the rest of the summer season, experts believe that Albania could exceed the eight million foreign visitor mark by the end of the year – a record that would put the country on a par with popular vacation destinations such as Croatia and Montenegro.
