A noticeable dark spot on Donald Trump’s hand has been causing speculation about the US president’s health on social media and in the US media for days. The White House has now been forced to respond with an official health report.
As Trump’s spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt announced in Washington on Thursday, the 79-year-old president has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency – an age-related vein weakness that occurs in many people over the age of 70. The condition is considered medically harmless but can lead to minor bruising and swelling, especially during physical activity or frequent handshaking, as is regularly the case with Trump.
“The president continues to be in excellent health,” Leavitt said. There are no indications of serious circulatory problems such as deep vein thrombosis or arterial circulatory disorders.
The Republican politician’s heart is also “completely normal,” as confirmed by an echocardiogram and further laboratory tests. Trump himself noticed slight swelling on his hand and consulted the White House medical team. In addition to ultrasound examinations of his legs, blood tests were also carried out to rule out other potential causes.
Leavitt emphasized that all values were within the normal range and that there were no indications of kidney problems or systemic diseases.
Regarding the noticeable discoloration on the back of Trump’s hand, which recently caused confusion in photos, Leavitt said that it was harmless irritation, partly exacerbated by regular aspirin use. The anti-inflammatory drug is administered as a preventive measure, which can occasionally cause mild hematomas in older people.
Despite the media hype, the White House emphasizes that this is a common and easily controllable sign of aging and that Trump remains “fit for duty.”
