The US president issued a clear warning upon his arrival at Prestwick Airport in Scotland: Europeans must “stop the terrible invasion of their countries.” Donald Trump warned: “Otherwise, Europe will soon cease to exist. You must finally take action. Immigration is destroying Europe.”
Among other things, Donald Trump plans to visit two golf resorts in Scotland that belong to his real estate company. A meeting with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is also planned for Sunday. According to British sources, he plans to meet with Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday.
However, his statement upon arrival at the airport will confirm the opinion of many Europeans: “You should get your act together, otherwise Europe will soon cease to exist. You must finally take action,” Trump said. “But you are allowing this to happen in your countries – and you must stop this terrible invasion that is currently sweeping across Europe. Immigration is destroying Europe.”
Geert Wilders, leader of the right-wing Party for Freedom in the Netherlands, responded promptly to the US president’s remarks: “Indeed, President Trump. You are absolutely right. Europe is under attack, and it is killing us. We must stop mass immigration, and we must stop it now! We must close our borders to illegal immigrants and deport them. Europe is not an Islamic continent.”
The trade dispute with the European Union is the focus of his five-day visit to Europe. Trump will also meet with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to discuss the issue. Ahead of the meeting, Trump spoke of a 50-50 chance of an agreement between the US and the EU. If successful, it would be the biggest deal of all, Trump emphasized. He said he was looking forward to meeting von der Leyen. He had previously promised to lower the threatened tariffs on imports of European products if the EU opened its market more to the US. Brussels has been negotiating with Washington for weeks to prevent the 30 percent tariffs announced by Trump.
