Visit with a signal effect: Jordan’s King Abdullah II welcomed in Tirana

Jordan’s King Abdullah II was received with the highest honors in Tirana. The focus of the state visit was on the recognition of Kosovo, the joint fight against terrorism, and the two-state solution in the Middle East conflict.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II traveled to the Albanian capital Tirana on an official visit, where he was received with high honors by President Bajram Begaj. The state visit marks another step in the deepening of diplomatic relations between Albania and Jordan. According to reports in the Jordan Times and Albanian Daily News, political, economic, and multilateral issues were at the center of the meeting.

In his welcoming address, President Begaj emphasized the importance of mutual respect and the desire of both countries to expand their cooperation at the bilateral and international levels. According to the Albanian Daily News, the meeting served not only to strengthen diplomatic ties, but also to coordinate concrete steps in strategic areas such as security, trade, and development.

A key topic of the talks was the international recognition of Kosovo. According to KosovaPress, President Begaj reaffirmed Albania’s “unwavering support” for the country’s sovereignty and its integration into the international community. King Abdullah II was open to this point of dialogue, even though Jordan has not yet officially recognized Kosovo.

The issue of counterterrorism also played an important role. According to Arab News, both sides underscored the need for international cooperation in the fight against extremism and emphasized the role of the Aqaba Process, a 2015 Jordanian initiative to coordinate global counterterrorism measures. King Abdullah II explicitly praised Albania’s contribution to this multilateral security dialogue.

The situation in the Middle East was also discussed. According to the Jordan Times and Arab News, both heads of state clearly spoke out in favor of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. King Abdullah II emphasized that long-term stability in the region could only be achieved through full recognition of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He called for increased international efforts to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crises and advance political solutions.

King Abdullah II’s visit to Albania is seen as a symbolically important signal in both Amman and Tirana – not least because of the mutual support in international forums and the shared security interests. As ambasadat.gov.al summarizes, the meeting demonstrates the growing strategic closeness between the two countries – and their clear positioning in an increasingly polarized geopolitical world order.
